Abstract: contemporary society, which is characterized by being plural and secular, has its foundation in human dignity. This means the respect for each other, with special emphasis on the freedom of self-determination, in the sense that each person has the right and the duty to self-governance. This leads, in the provision of health care, to take into consideration the informed consent, while maximum expression of respect for freedom of individual self-determination, and the Living Will is one of the starkest expressions of the previously expressed will by patient.
